Katherine Mashbir began her equestrian career as a junior rider, first showing jumpers on the California show circuit. She then moved on to three-day events, where she competed for three years on a junior team coached by Angela Littlefield, who holds an international judge's card in dressage. Katherine continued to compete in show jumping and related events until she switched to dressage in the 1980s.
She has trained with many notable riders and former Olympic team members, such as Michelle Gibson and Gwen Stockebrand, and competed successfully for many years on a national level. In 1995 she won the Shelly Segal Memorial High Point Award as well as numerous other honors. She ranked 19th at First Level in the 1995 United States Dressage Federation year-end award, against a field of approximately 3,000 other competitors, with a median score of 68.5%.
Today, Katherine currently owns and trains the talented thoroughbred gelding Rockstar and competes at Grand Prix. She also owns the 2003 Hanoverian gelding Dafoe (by De Niro), has trained horses of all levels and has worked personally with many notable trainers, including Michelle Gibson, Johannes Westendarp and Jaye Cherry. She currently is working with Stefan Wolff.
At present Katherine Mashbir works as a professional trainer, competitor and instructor. For the past several years she has focused her efforts on developing a private clientele for KLM Dressage, working with riders and horses at their own facilities.
